Modified Bitumen Roof Systems
Modified Bitumen Roof Systems came to the United States at the end of the 1970’s and early 1980’s after being developed in Europe in the mid 1970’s.  Modifiers were added to roofing asphalt to replace plasticizers that had been removed by advanced methods of the asphalt distillation process.
The two most common modifiers are APP (atactic polypropylene) and SBS (styrene-butadiene-styrene). The APP Modified Bitumen sheets are applied by heating up the underside with of the roll with a torch. The torch applied process creates a fire hazard and there are municipalities that have banned the use of torch applied Modified Bitumen (APP).  Learn More about Modified Bitumen Roofing System Installation in St Louis Mo  Click here>

The Built –Up-Roof
Asphalt Built up roof (BUR) has been the most common type of roof system that has been applied over the years.  The Built up roof system consists of multiple layers of reinforcing plies and asphalt forming a redundancy of water proofing layers.

The plies used in today’s BUR’s are made from fiberglass mats embedded into asphalt.  The fiberglass mats have replaced the asbestos mats that were widely used before being found to be harmful to the workers.  Learn More about Asphalt(BUR) Built-Up Roofing System Installation In St Louis Mo Click here>
TPO Roofing Systems (Most Popular)
Thermoplastic polyolefin, acronym TPO, is a thermoplastic elastomer olefinic.  A thermoplastic elastomer is a diverse family of rubber-like materials that can be reprocessed and recycled.

TPO-based products have been used in various applications, including the automobile industry since the 1980’s and have seen their usage continue to expand.  In 1989, TPO-based membrane moved into the roofing industry as a non-reinforced sheet.  In 1993, the original non-reinforced TPO membrane was replaced with membranes containing reinforcing fabric.  Since that time, the TPO single-ply roofing market has grown to hundreds of millions of square feet annually with TPO membrane comprising the fastest growing segment of the U.S. single-ply roofing industry.  Learn More about TPO Roofing System Installation In St Louis Mo Click here>
